A massive well done to everyone who ran the Great North Run on Sunday. I hope you all enjoyed the experience whether it was running to hit a specific time or to raise money for a charity.
We had 4 clients running on Sunday. Aly Dixon, GB Marathon runner has been training with us since May after returning from the Commonwealth games in Melbourne. However, she hasn’t had the easiest build up to the Great North Run, suffering a slight tear in her calf while away on warm weather training in July. Following her return Aly continued to her training in the gym and maintained a level of fitness through cycling. With only 3 weeks of running under her belt Aly managed to complete the Great North Run in a time of 1:15:42, a time she admits is nowhere near her capabilities. Most importantly for Aly and us was that she was able to remain injury free, and it is another step on the road to getting back to her best.
Richard Houghton completed both the Boston and London Marathons within the space of a week in April. Since then Richard has changed the focus of his training towards improving his speed. Richard couldn’t really push on with his training as he suffered a groin injury which hampered his preparation. With a solid rehabilitation and training plan, Richard completed the Great North Run in a time of 1:25:21 but best of all he was pain free with no ill effects from the groin. He was also back in the gym Monday lunchtime putting in a solid recovery session.
Rachel Barrett and Beth Brown regular attendants of our FIT group sessions completed the race on Sunday in times of 2:04:09 and 2:30:18 respectively. A great effort ladies and hopefully lots of money raised.
