A Huge Congratulations to Nathan who over the weekend competed in the British Masters Weightlifting Championship and took the Silver Medal. Nathan who is our Gym Manager and one of our Strength and Conditioning Coaches has been training hard for a number of months in preparation for this competition.
The day started well with Nathan making weight after a Holiday away in Scotland the week before. However while in Scotland Nathan pulled his Calf running a 10k race, finishing the race at a jogging pace rather than running pace! Not the best start to a holiday!!
At the British a week later the first lift was the Snatch. After hitting his opener of 91kg, a nice solid start, Nathan missed 95kg in his next two attempts. Not the start he wanted but onto the Clean and Jerk. During the warm up in the back area for the Clean and Jerk Nathan again felt his Calf pull during the Jerk part of the lift. With all this going on in the warm up area, and a long amount of time waiting between finishing the Snatch section of the competition and starting the Clean and Jerk Nathan looked to open on 116kg. Unfortunately missed his first 2 attempts. This left one lift left to record a total and stay in the competition. Nathan added an extra kilo to make the bar 117kg. Backing himself and with the support of his wife Laura in the crowd he made the lift, with a little fist pump to celebrate on getting the confirmation from the judges.
This lift meant he secured the Silver medal. A great achievement especially for all the hard work and dedication he has put into his training. A massive congratulation for everyone at Smart Fitness.
