Sam began his career in coaching Strength and Conditioning at Northumbria University. After initially working as a volunteer, Sam led the University rugby league Strength and Conditioning program. Alongside this, he worked with some of the University swimmers and volleyball players on their performance programs; a number of whom compete on both national and international levels. Sam also completed a master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning whilst working as a Strength and Conditioning intern at Northumbria. He is currently working towards UKSCA accreditation.
Sam is currently developing his role here at Smart Fitness. He is responsible for delivering coaching both at the gym at Regent Centre as well as developing a brand new Strength and Conditioning program on behalf of Smart Fitness at the newly formed Thorp Academy. He is leading on, and delivering the Long Term Athletic Development pathway at the academy alongside the sport specific coaches.
Outside of Strength and Conditioning Sam has played rugby for Blaydon and Tynedale as well as representing Northumberland at U16 to seniors going on to play for England Counties U20’s.
